Cuba is a mixture of old and new. And they are trying to restore many of the old buildings. The 500th anniversary of Havana is in 2019, and they are trying to get much of the restoration completed before then.

This square is called Cathedral square. The Church was started by the Jesuits, but not completed before they were banished from Cuba for being anti-government. It was completed later by another sect, and though the original design was for two equal towers, when the construction was being finished, the government would not let them take up the road that is beside the church, so they had to make the left tower narrower.

The mural on the right is created by gluing small pieces of small stone chips mixed with resin. The mural is a mirror image of the building on the other side of the street, and portrays famous figures in Cuban history who supposedly met in the building across the street in the heyday.
